Video of the first Sandy Spring's Kiwanis Pet Parade (1988)

Please enjoy this video of the first SSKC Pet Parade in 1988 at the Sandy Springs Festival. Herb Daws was the event director and he can be seen throughout the video.  It is a bit long at 30 minutes. For those who have been around awhile please ID some of the folks in it for our history project. Also, you can see Charlie Shepherd play Mr. McGruff as well.

A Little Kiwanis Georgia Division 14 and Sandy Springs Club History by Charlie Shepherd, Jr.

I have been researching my old Kiwanis files preparatory to preparing a history of the Sandy Springs Club and found some interesting membership figures. As of October 1, 1998, just ten years ago, the 14th Division had 255 members. We now have 185.

The Druid Hills Club had 43 members and the Executive Park Club had 31. These clubs merged and the Druid Hills Club now has 34.. Historic Roswell had 46 and now has 30. North DeKalb -Dunwoody had 39 and now has 32. Northlake had 42 and now has 29, Northlake Golden K had 30 and now has 11. Sandy Springs had 12 and now has 30. Hooray for Sandy Springs!

In 1998-9, in the 14th Division, there was a Golden K North Fulton Club with 12 members that has since folded. Now we have a Doraville Club with 19 members.

This reduction in membership is not just a Division 14 problem. As of October 1,1998, the Georgia District had 9,669 members and as of February 1, 2009, only 7,529.

It is apparent that the most important objective for the Georgia District at this time is to increase membership. The Community Analysis material that has just been distributed from National should be implemented by all Clubs in the Georgia District at once!
