Club Members
President's Update August 30, 2009:
Dear Sandy Springs Kiwanians,
We are winding summer down and our board has some exciting programs lined up for you all. We need your support to make them as meaningful as possible for the community. At the recent Georgia District Kiwanis convention, our club was awarded an honorable mention for our web site. Please continue to use it to find out what is going on with our club and members as well as have potential members visit it to see what we are all about.
Let’s thank Denise Hunt for coordinating our Woodland School supply drive. We collected a good amount of supplies for the school. It is needed more than ever since they are undergoing some severe budget cutbacks due to the economy.
Milt Gorman is in the process of coordinating our annual Sandy Springs Kiwanis Pet Parade at the 2009 Sandy Springs Festival . The parade will be held on Saturday, September 26, and will be a good one. Milt has planned an exciting event and please see him to help out. This is a great fun activity for the club and family members.
Thanks go out to Dick Schweitzer for handling the speakers for October and Guy Berger for taking care of the speakers for November. We need someone to help with the December speakers.
We will be hosting a dinner at the Ronald McDonald House on Monday, October 5. Denise Hunt will be chairing the activity. Dick Schweitzer put together a great menu and we need your support. See Denise to let her know what you can do. Since our treasury is running a little low, we could use your financial support as well as labor power. I think that everyone who participated in this program has come away with great satisfaction and fulfillment. The residents appreciate our efforts. Let’s show the community what the SSKC is all about.
September 3: Lunch Meeting at Nancy G’s
September 17: Lunch Meeting at Nancy G’s. We will have our installation of officers as well as award the Kiwanis of the Quarter as well as the Kiwanis of Year. Note: The installation has been changed to the regular lunch date rather than the dinner as previously planned.
September 24: Board Meeting
September 26: Sandy Springs Kiwanis Pet Parade
October 19: Quarterly Happy Hour at Mehan’s Public Tavern
Please note that our Installation will be held during a lunch meeting on 9/17/09, rather than the previously planned dinner. Also, during this program, we will present the Kiwanian of the Quarter as well at the Kiwanian of the Year. Join us as we honor these fine individuals and their contributions to our club.
Finally, we are looking for a good Santa Claus for our Children’s Healthcare program in November. We have the costume, just need the character!
Let’s keep Bill Crosland’s wife in our thoughts as she is been recovering from an illness.
See you all on Thursday and thanks for your service!
Nolan

President's Update: August 3, 2009
Dear Sandy Springs Kiwanians,
The school year is fast approaching and our club is going to do our part to help the children of Woodland Charter Elementary. We have tweaked our annual school supply drive and have decided to give the supplies directly to the school rather than the Community Action Center as we have done in the past. Due to the sagging economy, the school is in dire need of school supplies so I am asking that each member contributes at least $10 to the effort (or equivalent in school supplies). If you look at the newspaper there are a lot of great deals for school supplies.
Yesterday, I went to OfficeMax and bought 36 yellow pencils, 6 pocket folders, 4 composition books, and 3 packs of 100 sheets of filler paper. I then went to Office Depot and bought 2 pencil pouches and 3 pencil sharpeners. ALL OF THIS WAS FOR $2.99.
What is $2.99 to each of you? This is nearly the cost of iced tea at Nancy G’s. I propose that each member at our next two meetings instead of ordering a soft drink or tea, just order water. You can then donate at least that amount to the effort. Trust me, it won’t hurt you to have a glass of water with your meal! If you want to be really adventurous, you can not order lunch at the meeting and donate what you would have paid for the meal to the effort (in my case I can do without the food and extra weight!). As my recent mantra has been, just because you come to the meetings and add to the fellowship, doesn’t mean that you are helping the club. You need to become involved with our club activities. Remember, this is a Kiwanis Club not a social lunch club. We need your effort or this club will slowly disappear. Please see Denise Hunt for more information and thank her for spearheading this important service.
August 6: Lunch Program: 11:45 AM to 1:00 PM, Nancy G’s. We will be presenting the Kiwanis of the Quarter Award. Please attend to honor our member who has made some outstanding contributions to the club.
August 6: Woodland Charter Elementary: Join us as we man a booth to help promote Kiwanis and the K-Kids program. See Elise McIntyre for more information.
August 20: Teacher Appreciation Program: 11:45AM to 1:00PM, Nancy G’s. We will honor the Woodland Teacher of the Year. Dr. Cindy Lowe, Superintendent of the Fulton County Schools, will be our guest speaker.
September 17: We will have our installation dinner for new officers. Location and time will be determined.
Thank you to Dick Schweitzer for handling the speakers for October. We need some members to handle the speakers for November and December. Also, Milt Gorman is hard at work to make this year’s Sandy Springs Kiwanis Pet Parade better than ever. Please see him to lend a hand. He has plenty to do!
Have a great week and I appreciate your service.

President's Update: July 11, 2009
Dear Sandy Spring Kiwanians,
I hope you and your families are enjoying the summer. We will be in full swing again once the summer ends and our club needs your participation. Also, we will be discussing some possible changes to the club that will enhance our ability to recruit new members and be sustainable into the future. An idea that I think that we should visit is to have one service project a month, one lunch meeting a month, and one board meeting a month. According to Kiwanis International, new members want more service projects. Our club is moving in the right direction since our service programs have increase during my tenure. Change is hard and we have done the same things over the years, and it is time to make a change for the future. This is a great opportunity for everyone to get involved. We need to keep our club from becoming a lunch club and unfortunately, if we do not recruit new members, that is what we may have. I encourage everyone to visit the Kiwanis website to freshen up on what the organization is all about. If you spend a few minutes there you will see a lot a new ideas and programs.
Upcoming Activities (for more detail click here):
July 16, 2009: Lunch program at Nancy Gs : Center for the Puppetry Arts
July 23, 2009: Board Meeting and Happy Hour at El Azteca. Our quarterly happy hour will take place at 5:45PM after the board meeting which begins at 5:00PM. We will be presenting the Kiwanis of Quarter Award. Please try to attend to honor one of our very best.
August 6, 2009: Woodland Open House from 3:30PM to 7:30PM. Elise McIntyre will be manning a table to let people know about our club. Please join us for an hour or so to recruit members since we are very active in the school community. Also, the school is in need of some notary publics so if you are one please let Elise know.
Denise Hunt is heading up our school supply drive for Woodland Elementary. In the past we gave the supplies to the Community Action Center. This year we will be donating the supplies directly to the school. If you just want to donate money to the cause see Denise and she will handle any purchases.
Guy Berger has been recovering from a recent illness and is doing fine. Please keep him in your thoughts.
Milt Gorman is hard at work on the upcoming Pet Parade. He is forming committees and needs your help. This is a fun program and we have been doing it for over 20 years.
Finally, we are looking for members who want to be in charge of a month for our speakers. Each member takes a month and is responsible for securing 2 speakers. We have October, November, and December available. If you have just come to lunch over the past few years and enjoyed our speakers, this is a great way to give a little back to your club.
See you at our next meeting.

President's Update: June 28, 2009
Dear Fellow Sandy Springs Kiwanians,
I hope everyone is having a good summer and are enjoying themselves. Sean Ellis and I just spent the past few days at the Kiwanis International Conference in Nashville, TN. We were able to learn a lot of new ideas that we will be sharing with the club to make us stronger and help us grow over the next few years. The most important message that was often repeated was membership growth. The consensus was that to grow a club, a club must be relevant in the community. Also, new members want more service projects and fewer meetings. We will be presenting ideas which follow this philosophy. I challenge you all to join our leaders in helping our club. Remember, just coming to lunch is not enough!
June 30, Tuesday, 1:30PM to 3:30PM: Center of the Puppetry Arts at Children’s Healthcare. We will be hosting the Center as they entertain the children. Contact Harry Haake for more information.
July 2, Thursday, 11:45AM to 1:00PM: Lunch Program. Charlie Shephard will be our speaker. Charlie will discuss his WW II experiences. Please make an effort to join us. His experiences are very important for us to remember especially since July 4th is just around the corner.
July 16, Thursday, 11:45 AM to 1:00PM: Lunch Program. Center for Puppetry Arts.
July 23, Thursday, 5:00 to ?, El Azteca Restaurant, Board Meeting and Happy Hour. We will have a board meeting before our quarterly happy hour.
Remember, please help our club. Just coming to lunch and voting “no” on our growth initiatives is not healthy for our club’s future and community relevance!

President's Upate: May 28, 2009
Dear Sandy Spring Kiwanians,
I hope everyone is having a great summer and maybe have been able to leave town for a vacation. Even though we don't have many projects going on this time of year, we do have some great speakers. Please try to attend the meetings to support our club and make our speakers and guests feel welcome.
I want to congratulate Guy Berger for winning the prestigious Spirit of Sandy Springs Award given once a year by the Sandy Springs Society. Guy is our third member to receive this honor over the years. Please click here to see the description of the honor. This is an example of how our members are very involved in our community to make it a better place to live for others. Please congratulate Guy when you see him.
Thanks to Steve Young for taking the lead and organizing our quarterly Boyleston Road cleanup on Saturday, May 23. We had a good turnout and the following attended: Dick Schweitzer, Steve Young and his son, Dan and Elise McIntyre, Herb Daws, and Bill Crosland.
At our recent board meeting, we decided to continue with the Ronald McDonald House by having one event per quarter. Dick will spearhead the effort. We would like to have one member lead each event at the House. Please see Dick if you are interested, I recommend that all our members try to at least to come to one event at the house to see this great community resource.
Upcoming Events (click here for more info on these events):
June 4, Thursday, 11:45AM to 1:00PM. Club Meeting. Milan McGraw Propst, local Sandy Springs author and screenwriter will be our speaker. We will meet at Nancy G's, our new meeting place.
June 18, Thursday, 11:45AM to 1:00PM. Club Meeting. Sgt. Levey of the Sandy Springs Police Department will be our speaker.
June 30, Tuesday, 1:30PM to 3:30PM. We will host the Center for Puppetry Arts at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. We will have a puppet making workshop as well as a 40 minute performance of “Jack in the Beanstalk”. We can have 5 members at this event so if you havenot been to one of our programs at Children's you need to make the effort.
July 23, Thursday, 5:45PM to ?, Quarterly Happy Hour, El Azteca. We will have our informal happy hour so please show up, have a drink, eat some dinner, and share some fellowship with your fellow Kiwanians. We keep Kiwanis shop talk to a minimum so we can socialize. We will have our July board meeting at 5:00PM before the happy hour.
Thanks go out to Denise Hunt and Dick Schweitzer for booking our great speakers for May and June. We look forward to the speakers that Charlie Shepherd will book in July and Brad Katz for August. If anyone has a speaker they would like to invite for these months, please see the two members to see if they want them for their dates.
As usual, we still need new members to keep our club viable for the future. Please try to bring a guest to our meetings. Some members have told me they have three or four people they are working on becoming members, so if that is the case, I can not think of a better time with our programming to invite them. They won't become members if you don't invite them to our events. Remembers, most Kiwanians are asked to join.
Thanks for all your service and dedication to this great club. Sandy Springs was voted a top 25 city in the country, let's make this one of the top 25 clubs in the country as well.
Regards,
Nolan Feintuch

President's Update: April 24, 2009
We have had a very busy last six months and I want to thank everyone for helping our club make a great impact on the community. Our projects at Woodland Charter, Ronald McDonald House, and Children's Hospital have been a huge success in which everyone involved benefited. We raised close to $2000, gave countless volunteers hours, and read to a lot of children. I am excited more than ever about our club's potential upcoming projects which will be communicated to you all as we move forward with them.
Our schedule is very light over the next couple of months so we can recharge our batteries and prepare for the second part of the year.
Program Reports:
April 10, 2009: Guy Berger did a nice job of coordinating the Good Friday Memorial Service at Arlington Cemetery. There was a good turnout from folks across our Division.
April 18, 2009: Michael Ziegler did a great job of organizing our work at the Ronald McDonald House for the 2009 Volunteer For A Better Sandy Springs Day event. We were able to accomplish all the tasks that we were to perform. Thanks to Michael Ziegler, Denise Hunt (and two daughters), Steve Young, Dick Schweitzer, and Waylon Cooke (and wife) for participating. Also, we had Guy Berger, Jan and Milt Gorman, and Anita Kaukas help paint at Heritage Sandy Springs. It was a great show of folks for our club. Even though I was unable to attend due to being on vacation, it makes me proud to see the Kiwanis active in the Volunteer For A Better Sandy Springs day event I planned and directed for two years. Many local organizations help at RMDH but we are one of the few that actually has its members show up at the house. This has helped us stand out in that community in a big way and I hope that we have created a community tradition at the house for years to come.
April 23, 2009: Dick Schweitzer did a fantastic job in planning our quarterly happy hour event at Meehan's Public House restaurant. The club's long standing members received a drink and Sandy Springs Kiwanis baseball cap. Also, Dick provided some great prizes for a raffle. The weather held out and we had a great turnout. Those who attended were: Dick Schweitzer, Denise Hunt, Jan and Milt Gorman, Sean Ellis, Dan and Elise McIntyre, Nolan Feintuch, Charlie Shepherd (and wife), Guy Berger, Waylon Cooke (and wife), Bud Jones (and wife), and Bill Crosland (and wife).
I would like to continue having a quarterly happy hour event in which we can relax and enjoy some fellowship. The last two have been well received. I would like to have a different member plan the logistics for each event. (All you need to do is set the date and find the location). Please let me know if you want to do this for the third or fourth quarter happy hour.
Also, we are still working on the history of the club so see Charlie Shepherd if you want to contribute any information or materials. Our Board is still searching for a new meeting place so let Bill Robbins know if you have any ideas.
Our club's future relies on you all inviting new members to join our club. This is your club so if you want to see it in the future, please invite someone to join us. Most Kiwanians are invited to join so waiting for members to “appear” is not a good way to grow the club.
See you all at the next meeting and thank you for your service.

President’s Update: March 28, 2009
We have a busy month ahead of us and a lot of great activities in the works that I think will greatly benefit our community and members.
At our recent board meeting, we agreed that Charlie Shepherd will serve as our historian and liaison between the club and Heritage Sandy Springs in starting to archive our Kiwanis materials. We are planning a lunch program with Heritage Sandy Springs in the near future to educate the club about the importance of preserving our history. So, if you want to contribute materials to the history, please contact Charlie.
Let’s congratulate our newest member, Patty Voelz, to our club. Patty works with Fidelity Bank in Sandy Springs. She is a past Kiwanian and will make a fantastic new member.
Also, we agreed to partner with the group, Safe America ( www.safeamerica.org) for a program in August or September 2009. This organization promotes drivers education for youth and has a strong record of accomplishing that throughout Georgia and the Southeast. The goal is to promote driver’s education for the youth of Sandy Springs with an emphasis on the students at North Springs High School. The organization also offers low cost driver’s education which is mandated by the State. Safe America also has many safety related programs for children that we will have access to for our K Kid’s as well as our partner, Woodland. A representative from the Safe America will present to our club at our meeting on April 2. This partnership will be a great opportunity for us to get PR within the community as well as the State. The incoming Kiwanis Governor wants to have this as her “cause” for her term. We have the opportunity to be the “model” for such a relationship.
Guy Berger is working to put together a great Memorial Program at Arlington Cemetery on April 10 th from 11:45AM to 1:00 PM. This is a great community event so please try to attend and invite friends and family. Contact Guy if you have questions.
We are also in the process of finding another lunch location and Bill Robbins is heading up the effort. Please contact Bill if you have any ideas.
March 31, 2009: Woodland Teacher Appreciation
April 2, 2009: Lunch Program at Aldo’s w/Safe America Speaker
April 10, 2009: Arlington Memorial Service (more details to follow)
April 16, 2009: Lunch Program with Speaker from the Siera Club
April 18, 2009: Volunteer For A Better Sandy Springs Day at Ronald McDonald House
April 23, 2009: Happy Hour at Mehan’s Public House Restaurant. DON’T MISS. THERE IS A BIG SURPRISE FOR EVERYONE WHO ATTENDS!
Thanks to all the members who supported Bill Crosland with an interclub at his old Club in Gwinnett County. I would like to have someone step up and coordinate interclubs for us. Let me know if you would want to handle this task.
We have begun to post the board meeting minutes on our site under the “ Board Meeting” tab. Please visit our site often as we will keep it up to date with news, information, and pictures of our event. Share it with potential members.
See you all soon and thanks for your service!

Sandy Springs Kiwanis History Update (March 18, 2009)
As part of the history of our Club, the Pet Parade has been the longest on-going project that we have. I propose that we prepare a separate "scrap book" for this project. I have some pictures and some knowledge of our Pet Parades and request those of you who have pictures, mementos, etc, to share them with me. I will have copies made and return the originals to you if you want.
Of course, anything else you have that you feel should be in a history of our Club would also be appreciated. Possibly some of us can get together and go over what we have and what we need to have in our history. How about the chimney that was torn down and rebuilt in the Historic Center. Who has details on that?
Charlie Shepherd

President's Update: March 15, 2009
I just want to give you all an update on some activites over the next few weeks with our club.
As many know, the Sandy Springs Kiwanis Club has been serving the community for over 55 years. We have been a part of the city's history and it is important that we document that for others. I have asked Charlie Shephard to work on the club history so that we can put it on the website, create a scrapbook, and make a tri-fold display. Also, I would like to start archiving some of the past club materials at Heritage Sandy Springs. They have agreed to accept the material in their archives. I feel that if we start telling people about our rich history in the community as well as some of our service projects, recruiting members will be easier. We are planning a program at Heritage Sandy Springs for the first meeting in May which will have the archivist talk to use about the archives and how we can start depositing our materials.
We are approaching officer election time and desperately need members to step forward and help with the leadership of the club. Our club has some great momentum and can only continue if people step up to the plate and help out. If you are just coming to lunch and are not involved with the club, this will be a great opportunity to help out. You can also help out by recruiting new members. If you have not brought a guest in years, if ever, our upcoming activities would be a great place to start.
Our upcoming activites are as follows:
March 19: Member Bud Jones will speak to us about the importance of annuities. We will be meeting at Hunan's Gourmet in Sandy Springs Circle.
Last Week in March: Elise McIntyre is preparing goodie baskets for teacher appreciation week at Woodland Charter Elementary. Please see her if you can help out or donate anything.
March 23, 5:30PM: Dinner at Ronald McDonald House(Click here for directions). Dick Schweizer is preparing another great program at the RMDH. We will be serving dinner BBQ style. This is a great opportunity to see this wonderful community resource. See Dick if you want to donate anything or cook a dish.
March 26: Board meeting at Signature Bank. We will be meeting at 11:00AM rather than 12:00PM. Please note in your calenders.
April 18, Saturday, 9:00AM to 12:00PM: Ronald McDonald House. We will be hosting a volunteer day for Volunteer For A Better Sandy Springs Day and will be doing stuff around the house. All volunteers will receive a t-shirt and lunch. Michael Ziegler will serve as program leader.
April 23, 2009: 6:00PM to ?: Sandy Springs Kiwanis Club Happy Hour at Mehan's Public House. As part of a new tradition, the Sandy Springs Kiwanis Club is going have their second quarterly happy hour at Mehan's Public House at 227 Sandy Springs Place in the City Walk Complex. This is an opportunity to share some fellowship with your fellow Kiwanians while enjoying some good drink and food. To make things fun, we will have some door prizes to give away. Email Dick Schweitzer for more information. We will have our April board meeting at Mehan's at 5:00PM and will be done by 6:00PM.
Please note that our March 19 meeting will be at Hunan's Gourmet at Sandy Springs Circle, not Aldo's. We are in the process of finding a new lunch place, so please see Bill Robbins if you have suggestions. Also, if you want to serve in our leadership, see Guy Berger.
Thanks for your service to the community and look forward to seeing everyone this Thursday.

President's Update: 2/27/09
We have had a very busy and productive last couple of months and have given a lot back to the community. There are still some very exciting and important events ahead of us. During these stressful economic times, the Sandy Springs Kiwanis Club is needed more than ever in our community. In order for us to remain relevant in the community, your participation is crucial by either donating or volunteering for our programs. Please mark your calenders for the upcoming events:
March 5: Lunch Program with David Kelly. David, no stranger to Kiwanis in the area, will talk to us about why we are Kiwanians and our role in the community. David Kelly is a past Circle K International President and his wife was a past president of the Sandy Springs Kiwanis. We will be at Aldo's. Please invite potential guests since this will be a good opportunity to introduce folks to the Kiwanis organization.
March 6: Men of Woodland. Men from all over the community help out at Woodland Charter Elementary at a variety of tasks. Choose what you want to do! Contact Elise McIntyre for more information.
March 19: Lunch Program with Bud Jones. Bud will talk to us about the importance of annuities. We will meet at Hunan's in Sandy Springs Circle rather than Aldo's.
March 23: Serving dinner at Ronald McDonald House. We will be back at the RMDH after a great program there last week. Contact Dick Schweitzer for specifics if you want to contribute. Our previous program here was very rewarding and this is a good opportunity to see a great community resource and touch people who need our help.
At our recent board meeting, we discussed moving our meeting location. Bill Robbins will spearhead the effort to find a new location. We will “test” out Hunan's to see if we want to return. Please see Bill if you have any suggestions of possible lunch places.
Also, we are going to have quarterly happy hours for our members. The next one will be at Mehan's at Sandy Springs Circle on April 23, 2009, from 6:00PM to whenever we break up. Dick Schweitzer will organize this event. More details will be given later.
An initiative that I am starting is to document a history of the club. The Sandy Springs Kiwanis Club has been in the community for 55 years and has made may contributions. I have asked Charlie Shephard to write a narrative of the history. If anyone has information they want to contribute, please let me know. My goal is to create a tri-fold poster as well as scrap book of our history. We have an important history in the community and it would benefit us to start telling people about it.
SSKC has seen some positive momentum with more service projects and opportunities for our members to get involved within the community. In order to keep it up, we need some folks to step up and serve as officers next year. Please see Guy Berger, or Nolan Feintuch, if you would like to serve. Membership growth is key to our club, so please invite a potential member to one of our activities.
Visit our website frequently and find out what is going on and read reports from our events. Share it with prospective members. Also, visit our Facebook page as well.
Thanks for all your hard work and see you all on Thursday.

President's Update: 2/19/09
Thank you to all who came out to our program at Morgan Falls Dam. Tony Tramonte, plant manager for Georgia Power, did a great job of hosting the program with the lunch and tour of the facility. It is interesting how the facility was built in two years from 1902 to 1904. We had a great showing of over 20 members. Please click on the link below to see the pictures from the event.
http://kcss-ripples.org/events.php
We have some exciting programs over the next month so please mark your calenders. Guy Berger announced that members thus far have donated $200.00 to the Ronald McDonald House Dinners. I want to thank all the members who have stepped up to the plate and supported the program. Below the pictures from Morgan Falls on the PAST EVENTS page you will find a thank you letter from Homestretch for our sponsoring of one of their families during Christmas. I am in the process of compiling a scrap book of our activities so if you want to help with the effort please let me know.
OTHER BUSINESS:
February 23: We will be serving dinner at the Sandy Springs Ronald McDonald House. Please arrive at 5:15PM so we can start serving at 5:30PM. See Dick Schweitzer for more information and let him know if you are going to attend. This will be a great program and can be an opportunity to see how important this organization is to our community. The address of the RMDH is 5420 Peachtree Dunwoody Rd NE, Atlanta, GA - (404) 847-0760.
February 26: We will be reading to the children at Woodland. Elise McIntyre will provide details. Contact her if you want to help out.
February 26: Board Meeting at Signature Bank. 12PM to 1:00PM.
March 5: Club Meeting at Aldo's: David Kelly, past Circle K International President, and motivational speaker will speak to us about why it is important to be in Kiwanis today and motivate us to keep up our activities and involvement in the community. It should be a great program and a wonderful opportunity to bring potential members to learn more about what we do in the community.
See you all next time,
Nolan Feintuch

President's Update: 2/15/09
This is a reminder about the upcoming meeting on February 19, Thursday, at Morgan Falls Dam. This is in lieu of the regular meeting at Aldo's. Please arrive a little before or at 11:45AM. We have a busy schedule and I want to leave as much time for our host, Tony Tramonte, Plant Manager, Southern Company, to speak and give us a tour of the dam. Morgan Falls Dam is an historic dam and was once used to provide power to the streetcars of Atlanta. Also, the area is also the site of a new park. The park will be a premier recreational center in the region when it is finished.
IMPORTANT: We will be meeting at the house that is directly across from the gated entrance to the plant. It is a little two story brick home with two mail boxes.
DIRECTIONS: From Aldo's go north on Roswell Road for a little less than 2 miles. Turn left onto Morgan Falls Road. North Springs United Methodist Church is on the corner. Follow the road for 1.4 miles and you will come to the river. You will see the plant entrance gates on the right and the house is on the left. If you get lost, please call me at (678)362-5583.
Since Mr. Tramonte is very involved with the Boy Scouts and they do a lot of work on this part of the river, I want to give him a $25 dollar donation to give to his scout group. I encourage you all to pitch in to this donation. This is completely voluntary so see me if you want to contribute. I will put in $10 to start us off.
OTHER CLUB BUSINESS:
I have updated our web page so please visit it at www.kcss-ripples.org. I have posted pictures and videos. Share it with prospective members to let them know what we are doing. We will discontinue with the newsletter, The Ripples, and keep the site as current as possible.
Finally, I set up a Facebook page for our club. This is a great way to get exposure for our club as well as member recruitment. I encourage you to sign up on Facebook.com and link to the page. I can help you do that if you want. You can also access the Facebook page by going to our website and clicking on the Facebook widget on the Home page.
Look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday for this great program!

President's Update: 2/11/09
Our event today with the performers from the Cirque Du Soleil Kooza show at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta was fantastic. These world class folks entertained over 80 children, staffers, parents, and Kiwanians. Everyone had a blast. The show brought two clowns, a juggler, a facepainter, and a little dog named, Mojo. I think this show really did put a smile on many little youngster's faces and they will probably remember it for a long time. I wish we had the money to send them all to the show! Many thanks goes out to Harry Haake for taking the initiative and making this event happen. He is a not only a great member for our club as well as a valuable volunteer for Children's. Thanks for the following Kiwanians who helped today: Steve Young, Dick Schweitzer, Denise Hunt, Nolan Feintuch, and David Chamblee. Please follow the link below for the pictures and a short video. Note the clown balancing Dick's kiwanis cap on his nose!

President's Update: 2/5/09
I just wanted to share this statement from Dan Canady, President, Kiwanis International:
Exercise your heart
During February, we celebrate Valentine's Day, a day for sweethearts. Kiwanians have hearts too-hearts big enough to share.
This month, I encourage you to seek out those men and women who have Kiwanis hearts-potential members who are willing to share their time, their talents, their gifts with children-at home and around the world.
Invite a friend, business associate or even a stranger to a meeting, or invite them to take part in one of your club's service projects where they can witness the Kiwanis heart in action, or put their own into service and feel the blessings we feel every day.
This month, it's all about the heart. I encourage you to put yours to work for the children in your community and elsewhere, and to look for those like you who have much to give, to share, to help make the world a better place for children, and for all of us.
Please exercise your Kiwanis heart. Keep it strong and beating for the children.
